River Cruising through France

I have just returned from a wonderful trip. I went on a River cruise through France and it was wonderful. We arrived in Nice and stayed there for 2 days, the weather was perfect and we walked the town, climbed the hundreds of steps of the castle and had coffee and wonderful pastries at the little cafes... we then had a coach ride to Arles where we boarded the ship for the next 7 days.

Avalon waterways was the company we sailed with they are part of the Globus group and I have to say the service was great. The ship is the largest on the rivers and the cabins with sliding glass doors and French balcony made it perfect . It is your floating hotel, you unpack once and then you slowly make your way through all of the beautiful countryside stopping at the villages and towns . There are always city tours and optional excursions daily, we took the olive oil tasting and of course wine tasting...at the winery we actually got to taste the seasons Beaujolais Nouveau that is never sold before the 3rd Thursday of November, so it was very special treat.

Food on board is always fresh and very well prepared...big buffet breakfast..lunch and of course and wonderful 4 course dinner with complimentary wine and beer. local artists sometimes come on board and perform . We went through 25 locks and that was very interesting.

After arriving in Chalon sur Saone we were driven to Paris where we spent 2 days exploring this beautiful city. I bought the hop on hop off day pass and it was a great way to get around the city, Paris is a very large city and the best way is by metro or the bus...we saw all of the sites and had a lovely lunch on the Champs Ellysee..a tip, if you go the the Arch de Triomphe be sure to climb to the top it will give you breathtaking views of Paris..

This is a vacation I would definately take again......
